Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Heston Blumenthal is by no means foreign to every person who loves good food and appreciates a creative mind. He is known for taking inspirations out of Alice in Wonderland and creating spectacular meals to wow you in your seats.

When I first heard of him a few years back, I had completely no clue about him so I did a little research etc and probably know him as the King of Sous Vide. He literally sous vides EVERYTHING! It made me really frustrated when I didn't used to own a Sous Vide machine so I'm like, heck! I can't even recreate all these in my kitchen haha. That being said, Thank you for introducing me to the world of Sous Vide because it is amazing.

Last May, a few friends and I journeyed to Melbourne and we finally got to eat at one of his restaurants, also known as Dinner. It was mighty confusing because we were having Lunch at Dinner. Geddit? You probably have to make reservations way in advance so do that if you're interested in heading over! They have one in Melbourne as well as in London, alongside Fat Duck, which is the original helmed restaurant by him.

I will warn you in advance that this post is filled mainly with MAJOR FOOD PORN shots.

Savoury Porridge
Garlic & parsley butter, grilled abalone, pickled beetroot & fennel

Frumenty
Grilled octopus, smoked sea broth, pickled dulse, lovage & spelt

Meat Fruit
Mandarin, chicken liver parfait & grilled bread
(not pictured)

The restaurant itself was splendid as well. You can take a good look into the kitchen featuring its famous pulley-operated spit roast. That's some state-of-the-art technology right there! If I were a chef, I would love to work in a kitchen like that.

Outside of the kitchen, there is a room full of round table booths with lots of natural light pouring in. Everything is so bright and posh and nice. Really nice. I think that my general fear of eating in most celebrity or up-scale restaurants is that, everyone including the waiters, sommeliers and even the people there, would emit some sort of uppity vibe. Yet, I didn't get any of that from the waiters who served us. They were really kind and took time to explain the menu to us and the atmosphere was great.

Chicken cooked with Lettuces
Grilled onion emulsion, oyster leaf & spiced parsnip sauce

Fillet of Black Angus
Mushroom ketchup & fries

The steak for me was absolutely WINNING! It was like no other steak that I've ever had. Topped with bone marrow and panko crumbs, it literally melts in your mouth and it was the most orgasmic feeling ever known to mankind.

Taffety Tart
Caramelised apple, wattle seed biscuit, Eucalyptus, fennel & blackcurrant sorbet

Tipsy Cake
Spit roast pineapple

(On the house)

DEFINITELY order the Tipsy Cake. It is one of their best sellers and I mean, they even made a whole spit roast machine just to spit roast the pineapples. How crazy is that! The warm pillowy brioche is to-DIE-for. Yes, do it. Order it.

This has been one of the best meals I've ever had and I hope it will blow your mind as it did to mine.

Our First Anniversary

We spent our first anniversary a while back, (which happens to fall on Christmas Day as well), so I thought I'll share a little with you about our tiny romantic date that day.

In general, I'm really more of a let's-stay-at-home and cook something to eat kind of person but I do enjoy and do miss eating out / trying new restaurants sometimes. For Christmas, seeing that it's our First Anniversary as well, he asked me what I wanted to do and I said a nice dinner would be nice. He actually wanted to plan a full day's worth of activity for me but I really just wanted to chill at home with his company and just have some down-time with him.

We had a lovely meal at Prive in the evening and I really enjoyed the food at dinner as well as the company, of course. Jasper is the type of person who will gobble his food up without having a clue what ingredients are actually on the plate. Yes, he will probably know he's having a steak or a lobster, but most of the time he does not care less if the dish came with champagne-chive sauce so I always take on the role of trying to educate him on his meal as much as possible. A man's gotta know what you're filling your belly with!

I adore this black mesh dress that I got from Zara last year and paired it with my trusty Chanel.

Yes, we have awkward crooked teeth (result of never ever having braces done) and ugly laugh lines but I guess that's what makes us similar in so many ways. Looking forward to sharing many more weird antics and habits with you.

Valentine's Day Makeup

Valentine's Day is around the corner and whether you have a special someone to go out on a date with or not, there is no reason not to doll up for this day of love. I adore celebrating various occasions, Valentine's being one of them and if there's anything I can do to make myself more excited than I already am about the day, I'm ALL for it!

I have probably fell in love with rose-gold a long long time ago when I bought my first Michael Kors watch, way before everyone starting popularizing it. And it's also a great thing that Blush is making a comeback because cmon, how is that not the most adorable color on Earth?

Pat some rosey eyeshadow on your eyelids and swirl some peachy blush on the apples of your cheek and I am sure your date will not tear their eyes away from you for the whole night. What I have here, are some of my top makeup choices for a lovey dovey night out w my man.

Have fun and all the best Ladies!

Turning 29

It's the last of my Twenties and this year, my birthday happened to fall on CNY Day 1. The last time this happened was a long time back when I was most probably 10 and was not allowed a proper birthday cake for some weird traditional reasons haha. Not happening this time round though!

Here's to turning a year older and a year wiser in thoughts!

Amazing Reunion Dinners

I look forward to CNY Reunion Dinners every year. To me, they are the best things to start off a brand new year before everyone goes into their own personal frantic mode again.

Reunion Dinners are a time for friends and family (basically, your loved ones) to come together and catch up on old times or bond over the love of food. I personally enjoy a good steamboat because, let's be real, reunion dinners are ALL ABOUT THE STEAMBOAT. Nothing beats a good steamboat soup base with all your favorite yummy things thrown into it and eventually soaking up all that wonderful flavourful soup. It tingles my palate all the time and I do not care that I can eat much lesser now than before, when I was still an innocent naive teenager exploring the world of food, yet it still satisfies me like no other.

Laze on the couch thereafter, eat some cake and ice-cream, put on a film or in my case, got introduced to some hilarious drag-queen reality tv show on Netflix and resume round 2 of eating at Midnight. These are the moments that I cherish and these are the memories that I won't forget.

How did you spend your Reunion Dinners?
Share them with me (:
